  • dear god that was a lot of SAS knowledge. Hopefully it will pop up usefully for a long time to come.

    To do:

    1. Math Stat Hw 4
    2. Study for Tuesday Math Stat test
    3. Time Series Hw 1
    4. Couple of simulation problems

    To read: 0

    Extra:

    1. Analysis 2.4 and 2.5
    2. Prob Modeling Hw 3
    3. wonky project piece for Prob modeling. Anyone know how to find alpha values for a Kolmogorov distribution?

  • yay! lab is canceled!

We're going to have it next week during class time, just like *gasp* we should have a week or so ago.

  • I am a great big SAS geek

Tonight: Intro to SAS Lab for econ - I probably know everything he's going to throw at us, but I don't want to be the person who claims I know it all, but then misses something crucial. Bah. I choose the strangest things to be meek/nice about.

Wednesday/Thursday: Local SAS Users Group's Conference - Advanced Macro programming class Wed, and then various talks and hobnobbing Thurs. (and cutting out a tiny bit early to get to school. The scariest part is that this means I probably have to park downtown. )

    Do

    1. math stat hw 3
    2. couple of problems for simulation

    Read

    1. Simulation Chs 3 & 4

    Extra

    1. Analysis 2.2 and 2.3
    2. Prob modeling ch 11, hw 2

  • hand in:

    1. Math Stat Hw 2
    2. Actually do those Simulations

    read:

    1. Math Stat Ch 1
    2. Last two sections of Time Series Ch 1
    3. simulation?

    extra:

    1. Analysis 1.3 and 2.1
    2. Prob modeling hw 1 (the last one was number 0, not to be turned in)
    3. read prob modeling ch 3 (or as much of it as my misprinted book has)

Time Series SAS lab got canceled tonight. Curious what the deal is with that, but happy to not be spending 5-7pm of a Friday at school.

  • ewww

storing the coffee making glassware (french press, cold brew carafe (have I mentioned that I collect devices for making coffee?)) right above the stove results in glassware that is first covered with a fine layor of bacon grease, and then dusted with... well, dust.

here's hoping the dishwasher gets all the grease off first try.

    icky icky.

    ptang.

  • I've got a plan

Of course, the return of focus to school means that the January prelim is "imminent" - amazing how good we are at stressing ourselves out. I'm going to work through my old Intro to Analysis book. 8 chapters, 32 sections, 16 weeks - 2 sections a week.

    To hand in

    1. Math Stat hw 1
    2. Baby Simulations in Matlab

    To read

    1. Math Stat Appendices A&B
    2. Time Series Ch 1
    3. Start flipping through Simulation

    Extra:

    1. Read and work problems from Analysis 1.1 and 1.2
    2. Prob Modeling Hw 1
    3. Read Ch 2 Prob Modeling

  • i went to school..

and it was AWESOME. My new teachers seem really cool, the class with the teacher I've had before seems good. It's going to be crazy super busy, but I think it's going to be great and possibly even real world applicable. YAY.

  • geek humor

it's always funny when searches for SAS, the statistical system, bring back results for SAS the British Special Forces.

  • adventures in baking

last night, tried making streusel topped apple bread. Substituted pecans for walnuts, because we already had pecans. Other than not cooking all the way through (at ALL), it came out really yummy. I blame the not cooking all the way through on my concentrating the topping in the center - it didn't spread very well, so I ended up with a rich rich vein of cinnamon sugar in the center.

Also - tried the "create your own buttermilk my adding 1 Tblsp lemon juice per cup of milk, let stand 10 minutes" trick. Looked NASTY, but must have worked ok, since the resulting bread (and batter!) were so good.

  • mission accomplished

I made this scones recipe. With the important exception of putting the dry ingredients in the food processor, then chunks of butter on top, then pulse a few times instead of any crazy nonsense about hand grating butter. We added a couple of handfuls of craisins and a heaping teaspoon of orange zest. yummy!

total time - about 45 minutes. Easy, but makes kind of a mess, so probably not a do-it-all-the-time kind of thing.

I'm fascinated by how similar in texture they are to homemade biscuits, so I want to make my fantastic buttermilk biscuits again soon. I wish buttermilk came in smaller containers.
