Not really a surprise, but I didn't pass the analysis prelim. I knew I didn't study as much as I should have, and I knew I didn't feel good about it when I finished. But, but, but, I still hoped that somehow the curve would be good enough that it wouldn't matter.

    poo.

  • Stats geek moment

I've been flailing about in SAS for an hour or two each of the last few work days. But a friend lent me this book last night, so now I can flail about much more effectively.

I now proceed to start reading it cover to cover.

  • my logic is... something

    1.

him: what's this bruise on your back?
me: I must have walked into something
    him: backwards?
me: explains why I didn't see it at least.

    2.
him: just so you're warned, there's a spider in the tub. It's not too big, you can get it with a shoe.
me: aren't you the big, strong man? isn't dealing with these things part of the job description?
(he killed the spider AND disposed of it )

Have you ever had to give a credit card in advance with restaurant reservations? I just got asked to. On the plus side, the name she has for me is not the name on the card, and she totally didn't get the entire credit card number. For some reason, I just don't feel real motivated to correct her on those points.

    still ... how very odd.

definitely allergic to the weeds. definitely.

  • Can I just mention... ?

I LOVE my new coworkers. LOVE. I've never seen people be this excited at work. Not just people I work with. I've never seen anyone anywhere love their jobs this much. I can't wait until I am "one of them".

    Ready to be assimilated...

Semester officially over: grades are posted. I'm a little shirty about how I did just as well in the super hard class as in the class I thought I was near the top of the class in. But I'll get over it - they were both pretty good grades and it seems like my GPA is completely not important now.

Still haven't sold that stupid analysis book - but it is sitting in my friend's office (to which I now have a key!) so I can try as soon as I am there and motivated. motivated seems to be the missing piece.

I am starting to study for the prelim (6/1!). In that weird way where I have a slow moment in the evening, so I go try another analysis problem (working my way through the old prelims that are available online.)

I'm never sure how much I want to talk about this here on the wilds of the internet, but: We got our marriage license yesterday (the only civic servants you'll ever meet who only have to deal with happy people.) The room was mostly plain old federal building waiting room - but with bouquets with hearts in them, antique black and white wedding pictures, and one of those trellis arch things in the corner.

Things to know about getting your marriage license: they would prefer that you know where your parents are born. How silly. It's in a public building - like the kind with a metal detector at the door. Leave your pocket knife in the car.

Also, the marriage license does not make you married. Within 30 days,
you get married, and the officiant fills out the form, sends it back to
the clerk, and THEN it's official.

Today we're meeting a photographer and taking fancy pictures. Getting married seemed like a good excuse to actually have pictures with both of us in them (we have about 3. none of which are very good. ) Because it's us, it's a photographer chosen based on his online portfolio and friendly responses to emails. (Actually, I emailed two and he was the one who emailed me back... Kind of like how I got my spiff new job, so maybe that's a good sign.)

We got a grill! as kind of a hand-me-down, early wedding present. I'll have to get N to blog about it: all I know is that delicious meat comes back inside with him, and he hasn't set anything on fire that he wasn't supposed to.
